Learn More About Yorkiepoos

  • Temperament

Yorkiepoos are energetic, lively, and playful little dogs with a good nature. They're easily trainable and eager to please, making them a great choice for novice or first-time dog owners. The one thing Yorkiepoos love most is being around their human companions and being involved in family activities. That said, they are not the type of dog that can be left alone for extended periods of time. When by themselves for too long, Yorkiepoos can become destructive out of boredom, and they may develop separation anxiety. Outside of their families, Yorkiepoos are friendly and affectionate with just about everyone. As long as they receive the attention that they crave, Yorkiepoos make delightful, loving companions for all types of different people.

  • Health

Yorkiepoos are generally healthy, but could be susceptible to a variety of conditions from either parent, including Epilepsy, patellar Luxation, Portosystemic Shunt, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, Hypothyroidism, Hyperadrenocorticism, & Atopic Dermatitis.

  • Activity Level

Yorkiepoos are energetic and need daily exercise; whether it be from a daily walk, playing fetch, or running around a yard, they're not picky. Playtime is necessary not just to drain energy but also satiate their prey drive. They can be easy to train thanks to their affectionnate side, but could, at times, be a bit stubborn.

  • Grooming

The Yorkiepoo's coat varies puppy to puppy but generally you'll want to brush them daily to keep tangles away. Their coat shoud be trimmed regularly to whatever length you'd like; there's no standard length. Lastly, you should bathe when necessary, there's no set schedule you'll need to keep.

  • Shedding

Thanks to their Poodle parent, Yorkiepoos don't really shed, making them a hypoallergenic breed.

  • Appearance

Yorkiepoos have a soft, silky and curly coat that comes in almost any type of color, including tricolor patterns like Yorkies, or solid colors like Poodles. There are variances in the snout and ears but generally you'll see long, tapered snouts and perky ears. The tail has even more variety, some short and others long.

  • History

The Yorkiepoo is a cross between a purebred Yorkshire Terrier and a purebred Poodle, typically a Toy or Miniature. Like most designer dogs, the Yorkiepoo has a mysterious history. It is assumed that the Yorkiepoo originated in the United States sometime during the 1980s or 90s, but that's about all that is known about this little dog's history. Unfortunately, there isn't any one person or breeder that can be credited with being the first to breed a Yorkiepoo. Nevertheless, the Yorkiepoo quickly became one of the more popular designer breeds. Today, it is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC), the International Designer Canine Registry (IDCR), and the Designer Breed Registry (DBR).
