Learn More About Mountain Feists

  • Temperament

These energetic hounds are excitable and company. They can be very driven animals and are also great at attention-based tasks such as scouting or hunting small game, such as squirrels and birds.

  • Health

These dogs are normally quite healthy and aren't known for having too many issues regarding heart, lung, or liver disease.

  • Activity Level

These are very high-level dogs. On days that they can’t be taken out hunting, please take them on long strolls or walks so they can get out all of their pent-up energy.

  • Grooming

These short-haired terriers are perfect to keep around the apartment for their small size, but also for the lack of fur they shed. Their fur is very thin and short, so cleaning isn't very hard.

  • Shedding

Being short-haired hounds, these dogs don't shed a lot. If you happen to see a build-up on them, take them out for a long walk or hunting trip to get all of the loose hair off their coat. Brush them often, that way you can get all of the dead hair off their bodies and leave a clean shine behind.

  • Appearance

These short-haired dogs come in a variety of colors. They have pointed ears and thin tails, and are normally very small. With a confident leader, they'll never leave your side.

  • History

These small dogs have been around more than most other breeds on the entire continent. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln both wrote of these fierce hunters, as well as their natural ability to tree small game and chase down birds. They're immaculate at hunting small animals, with their small and agile bodies and boundless energy. Not only do they make for excellent hunters, but they've also been turned into very great scouts over long years of training, instinct, and generations of knowledge and practice. These dogs make for amazing pets as well, due to their great temperament. Not nearly as aggressive as their look-alikes- the Jack Russell Terrier- these dogs do exceptionally well when their owner shows confidence and leadership. They'll follow somebody with a backbone but may challenge a master if he doesn't show much authority over the animal. They like to be in charge of the pack, and their long history of hunting and energized patrolling through villages and towns can be read about in George Washington’s letters and notes regarding these small terrier dogs.
