English Springer Spaniel Puppies

English Springer Spaniels are affectionate, alert, and naturally friendly dogs. They're at their happiest when spending time with people and do not tolerate being left alone for extended periods of time. If left by themselves for too long, English Springer Spaniels may experience separation anxiety or become destructive out of boredom. Otherwise, the Springer makes a wonderful family companion. These dogs are very outgoing, rarely timid, and never pass up the chance to make a new friend, whether human or animal. This breed is quick to learn and eager to please, so training is on the easier side. Adaptable to many different types of homes, the English Springer Spaniels make great dogs for all types of people.

They are typically very healthy, but they can suffer from various genetic disorders common with the breed. Responsible breeders will test for conditions like elbow/hip dysplasia and eye conditions.

Energetic and curious, the English Springer Spaniel requires plenty of exercise and mental stimulation every day. A long leash walk, a romp in the yard, and frequent training sessions can go a long way toward helping the English Springer be a pleasant and well-behaved house dog.

The English Springer Spaniel's coat should be brushed 1-2 times per week so the coat is conditioned and healthy. They should be bathed every other month or when they get exceptionally dirty.

Their double coat sheds moderately year-round, so you can expect to find a few stray hairs around your house or on your clothes.

The English Springer Spaniel is a medium-sized dog with a compact, well-proportioned body. Their coats are medium in length and have feathering over the ears, legs, and cheeks. The English Springer's fur is typically black and white or liver and white, but it can also be a tricolor pattern.

Spaniel-type dogs have been around for centuries and were very popular hunting dogs. During the 1800s and early 1900s, spaniels were classified by their hunting use rather than their breed. Smaller spaniels were used to hunt woodcock and were given the name "Cocker." The larger spaniels were used to flush or "spring" game from the brush for hunters to shoot, and were therefore named English Springer Spaniels. In 1902, Cocker Spaniels and English Springer Spaniels officially became two distinct breeds instead of variations of the same breed. In 1913, the English Springer Spaniel made its way to the United States and, over the course of the following decade, the breed became one of the most popular in America.
