  • Activity Level

The Belgian Sheepdog is a working dog that is accustomed to an active lifestyle and needs plenty of exercise. These dogs love to be outdoors. In fact, they often prefer it over being inside. However, they will do well indoors if given enough exercise. Belgian Sheepdogs should also be given time to run freely in a secure area on a regular basis.

  • Grooming

Their coat is easy to maintain most of the year, it just requries a weekly brushing to stay healthy. Shedding season is another story. During this time their coat requries daily brushing to remove the immense amount of dead hair that has fallen out that day.

Belgium has long been the world's leading exporter of chocolate, which means they have a great need for cattle herders. Sheep dogs were used for hundereds of years, but they breeds weren't classified until the 1890s. In that time 4 breeds were specified, the Belgian Sheepdog being one of them. By the 20th century the Belgian Sheepdogs' work ethic and versatility became known throughout Europe, and they are now used as both working and family dogs.
