  • Health

Australian Terriers generally live long and healthy lives, but responsible breeders will screen for things like patella evaluation and hip issues. They can also be prone to skin issues, so proper coat and skin care are essential.

  • Activity Level

Australian Terriers have a high energy level, and require daily play sessions or walks to be content. If they don't get enough exercise they can begin acting out. During these walks and play sessions Australian Terriers should always be in a fenced in environment or on a leash. They have a strong instinct to hunt, and have been known to chase animals so far away from home they get lost.

  • Grooming

The Australian Terrier's coat is shockingly low maintenance. Their wiry hair is resistant to matting and repels dirt, Brushing once a week is enough to keep their coat healthy, and dead hair should be stripped every 6-8 weeks. • Appearance

This small and sturdy breed has a long torso and a docked tail. Their harsh textured outer coat is great at repelling dirt and can be blue-tan, red, or sandy. They are best known for their pointy ears and top-knot of silky smooth hair.

  • History

Australian Terriers were first bred in Australia in the 19th century by interbreeding popular British dogs like the Scottish Terrier, Skye Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, and more.
