  • History

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog's name is derived from the Alapaha River in Georgia, USA, which is where it originated. The breed is said to be a modernized version of the plantation dogs once used in the Deep South. After the American Civil War, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog almost became extinct, but a farmer decided to try and revive the breed on his own. He was successful, and after his passing, his granddaughter continued to breed the dogs. While purebred, this breed has not yet been recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), but was given recognition by the Animal Research Foundation (ARF) in 1986.
